Active Voice is a team of communications experts who specialize in working with powerful films to advance movements for social change. We work with filmmakers to ensure that their films can be embedded within a movement through practical and sustained channels, and we work with nonprofits, foundations, and public agencies to enhance their communications using story in innovative ways. With all of our partners, it’s about engaging audiences meaningfully.
One of the first organizations of its kind, Active Voice brings a genuine understanding of the value of storytelling to move the meter on some of the most difficult-to-tackle issues of our time. Founded in 2001, Active Voice has influenced local, regional, and national dialogue on issues including immigration, criminal justice, healthcare, and education. Our team of communications specialists, campaign coordinators, and researchers design and implement outcome-oriented social justice campaigns that focus on what a story can uniquely bring to a movement, while keeping an eye on long-term goals.
Since 2001, Active Voice has been building a network of prolific filmmakers, powerful production studios, major foundations, policymakers, community leaders, and film distributors, who share our dedication and passion for this work. Serving as an intermediary between a network of valuable players, we have a fundamental belief in the power of a story well-told to bring together people of differing perspectives, help them push past ideological or experiential divides, and spark greater collaboration and action toward tackling pressing social issues.
