FUTURO MEDIA GROUP

Inspiring dialogue among Latino and immigrant communities nationwide

About the Project

Active Voice consulted with award-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa and her media company Futuro Media Group to use their radio show Latino USA and PBS television series America by the Numbers to inspire dialogue and civic engagement among Latino and immigrant communities nationwide. Latino USA is an award-winning NPR program with a 20-year track record, the longest running Latino-focused program on the radio. We were brought on to help the team organize live in-person events inspired by Latino USA‘s radio content. America by the Numbers was part of PBS’s 2012 election coverage, and explored issues of citizenship, democracy, and the role of immigrants in the electoral process. With Active Voice’s help, Futuro was able to create safe spaces around their content for productive conversations about hot-button issues during the election season. With both types of content, we helped Futuro successfully bridge connections between compelling stories and shared community experiences.
