GRASSROOTS GRANTMAKERS

Helping place-based grantmakers use story to advance community change

About the Project

Grassroots Grantmakers is a national network of place-based funders that work to advance community change on a range of social issues. With a growing interest in the power of story, and a few members actively engaged in local film-based initiatives, Grassroots Grantmakers sought Active Voice’s help in deepening understanding about how storytelling could unite the network while advancing local goals. In addition to discussing strategies to jumpstart local initiatives with a few informal working groups within the network, we co-presented a national webinar with the Fledgling Fund that featured the basics of using film for community engagement, case studies from local grantmakers, and strategies for generating sustained impact.

Our Work

  • Brainstorming with members of the Grassroots Grantmakers on strategies to improve current film-based initiatives
  • Webinar presentation: "Using Film to Activate Community Change"

Outcomes

  • 50 community-based funders equipped with new tools and strategies to use film for community change
  • Ongoing conversations with select community-based funders about strategies to advance local initiatives
