Most Americans don’t personally know a Muslim. Hate crimes against perceived Muslims remain high. But as a growing, increasingly diverse American community, American Muslims are essential to our democracy. Active Voice helped to amplify and leverage these narratives since 2002 through high-profile PBS documentaries in The Islam Project, festival sensations like New Muslim Cool (2009), and bridge-building campaigns for Welcome to Shelbyville (2010) and Hawo’s Dinner Party (2012).
